HUGE 3000 Facebook Fan Giveaway! ~~CLOSED

I (Crystal) am so very thankful for the wonderful Facebook fans Tree Hugger has!  Not only do you have the sweetest comments for me when you receive your orders but you also love to share with your friends and have helped educate women that there are healthier and more comfortable options available.

To celebrate reaching 3000 fans Tree Hugger is giving away two $30 gift certificates as well as two $20 gift certificates.  I then thought "Why not go BIG?" so there was a post that stated for every "like" received on that status I would up the prize total by $.25.  Well, guess what....it received 483 "likes!  I will round it up as I am now closing that status and will be adding another $125 in gift certificates to the prizes.

So here are the prizes:

the first 2 names drawn will receive one $30 Tree Hugger gift certificate
the next 7 names drawn will receive one $20 Tree Hugger gift certificate
the next name drawn will win a $15 gift certificate
and the last name drawn will win a $10 gift certificate

To Enter (I'm going to make you work for this contest so it's a two part-er):
1. Please post a comment to this blog entry answering this question:
What would you say to someone who was hesitant to try cloth pads?
AND
2. Please go to www.treehuggerclothpads.com and link me to your favorite pad set currently listed.

Make sure to include your email address in your comment as I will contact all winners via email.  You must do both parts to enter and only one entry per person.  I do read through each and every entry and do not count the invalid ones to make it fair for all.

The names will be drawn Monday June 18th at 9am central.

  13. 1.) Cloth pads are the most wonderful thing you can do for yourself AND the environment! They are so much more comfortable than disposables and actually let you "breathe" down there! They are also surprisingly easy to clean--especially Minky fabric. Think of all the money you will save over the lifetime of a cloth pad, totally worth it. The thought of everyone's 'sposies in a landfill is one of my personal nightmares--think of all that unnecessary waste! Once you go cloth you never go back!

2.) I have two Tree Hugger favorites right now.
One is the rainbow postpartum set: http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_47/Colorful-Minky-NightPostpartum-Pad-Set.htm
and I also have my eye on the black and pink panty liner set with wetbag: http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_163/Cherry-Blossom-Pantyliner-Set-with-wetbag.htm

  17. I've thought about this so many times. This is what I tell people who go "eww..that is gross".

First off what do you do when you have a leak and your undies get dirty? You take them off, and toss them in the sink and wash them out right? You don't even think twice about it. You don't go "ewww.. and throw them away do you?" Thats how cloth pads are. You use them and rinse them out.
second they're SO MUCH more comfortable! and third no waste and no wasting of money.

How my cycles are lighter and shorter and I have nearly no cramps compared to when I used disposables. My 9 year old has asked me to start a stash for her. Because of us talking about how bad my cramps use to be I would be curled up with a heating pad on my stomach and taking medication for the pain.

  67. I've been considering mama cloth since starting to cloth diaper my first born. After all, we love cloth diapers and how much harder could it possibly be?

I think the selling perks for me are largely cost, comfort and I'm hoping they'll be kinder to my sensitive skin than disposable pads.

    My favorite set is: http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_168/Carnival-Owls-Heavy-Flow-Pad-Set.htm

The owls are SO cute. I love the paisley as well. I can see how these could be just as addicting as CD. I love feeling pretty down there and fun prints would totally make AF more enjoyable!

If they already CD their children, I tell them they deserve cloth too- and for those who think it is too much trouble, I tell them that my daughter has been using cloth since she began her period two years ago... and she cares for them too!!! And on that note, I had her select which set she would like and she chose http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_126/Indian-Summer-Pantyliner-Set.htm She isn't really into heavy flow or PP pads at this stage in her life ;-)

It makes an otherwise unpleasant time more comfortable. Mama cloth is also super cute! My daughter wears cloth diapers and someday I will buy her some cloth pads!

  80. I would tell people that yes, it is a change, but a GOOD ONE! Disposable pads can not only be expensive every time you run out (and need to make that trip to the drug store), but they are also very harmful to the environment! They tend to bunch up and not stick very well, whereas, reusable cloth pads have a wonderful snap to keep them on and in place! People may be hesitant for the fact that you must clean them, but washing is a breeze! Not to mention, the many cute designs make that time of the month just a little nicer ;) I will never go back and continue to tell people all the time that they must switch--you won't know until you try, so see the benefits for yourself! :)

Its SO hard to choose which design is my favourite, but I think I am going to go with: http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_167/Brown-Flowers-Light-Flow-Pad-Set.htm

  83. I read somewhere that using cloth pads isn't that much different than using cloth diapers for your little ones. And that's what got me to change, the "ah ha" moment. So I would tell someone who's curious about cloth pads the same thing. I would also tell them all the great other benefits as well. But I knew all of the other benefits and still didn't like the idea of them until I read the comparison to cloth diapers. If my (future) children can use cloth, why can't I?

  93. I just wrote out my entry and it vanished (sorry if its my phone playing up and it then appears more than once - I promise I'm not trying to cheat)

I would show them the statistics connected to the waste and damage to the environment caused by disposable sanitary wear, I would then work out with them how much money they could save over the course of their 'menstruating years' and then I'd tell them that while both of these reasons are definitely good enough in theory that I'm convinced practically if they gave them a try the extra comfort would win them over.

If this had them at all curious I'd then buy them a few to try out (this is what a friend did for me and having the risk element of maybe wasting my limited funds taken away really kicked started me)

  112. What would you say to someone who was hesitant to try cloth pads?

I would explain all the horrifyingly nasty chemicals found in disposable tampons and pads. THERE'S A WAY TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT AND OUR BODIES!! Not only are they good for our bodies, but they're so amazingly soft and comfortable. Not to mention without all those gross chemicals messing up our body chemistry our bodies will adjust to where they naturally should be and often times your period will be shorter. Who wouldn't love that? They also save you money, are super cute, and are so easy to take care of. They're just all around magical. :)

I'm telling everyone who has young daughters, we do so much to take care of our babies and keep them away from toxins and unhealthy things even doing the cloth diaper thing then we give them yucky pads!!!! To reluctant users...
Cloth is easy to care for, saves a ton of money, and is SO comfortable. You have nothing to lose - buy a couple even, try them out, if they're not your thing then you at least have them for backup when you've run out of your disposables (but of course, this is a trick, cuz they'll never go back to disposables!)

Cloth pads get rid of the odour, discomfort, and irritation of disposables. And they are just overall better for the environment and better for you. People think you need some elaborate soaking, washing and rinsing routine for them, but it simply isn't true! Once people know how easy the washing part is, I think they instantly become more open to the idea. And of COURSE the money savings and comfort. Sooooo much more comfortable!!!!

I would tell someone who was hesitant (like I was at the start)all of the benifets that you get from using cloth pads over the other ones.Way less cramps do to you are not being stucked dry, way more comfortable and so soft and minky does not stain at all. Also that it's Not gross at all to use them just wash them in the washer with no downy. I wuld aslo tell them how it makes your flow lighter over time and im sure everyone would be happy about that! I think I would just tell them to jump right in and try them. I have never tried cloth pads even though I have wanted to for awhile. I have been hesitant because for some reason it seems like it might be kind of gross, but I know that it won't be since anyone who has tried them, loves them. I just need to jump in. I cloth diaper so why wouldn't I use cloth pads. What a better way to try them than through a contest!!! Hope I win some to try!

  145. I was hesitant to try cloth when my first was a baby and ended up with a Diva Cup instead. I LOVED my diva cup and never used anything else, until I had my second baby. It was painful to put anything in there, even almost 9 months later it is painful. So I gave cloth a shot and I am in love with it this time! It is SO easy to use and since we cloth diaper, I just toss them in the wash with the diaper laundry. Even if you don't cloth diaper, just toss them in with your towels or other laundry you wash on hot.

I have found cloth to be less humid/sticky, especially in our already humid Alabama weather. It is bad enough to feel wet on the skin from sweat, but to feel wet down there is no fun either. I have also noticed with mine, and you have to get a good brand and the right size! that when I have a sudden rush of flow, the cloth tackle it way better.

I never thought I'd love cloth pads, since I never loved pads, but now I am thinking the Diva Cup may just stay in retirement ;)

Choosing a set was hard! You have SO much cute stuff! I like browns and flowers though, so I chose this :)

  146. I tell people who aren't sure about using them, how comfortable they are, but even more than that they are SUPER easy to clean. I think people get wrapped up in the 'inconvenience' of it and the thought of 'dirty' work, but It's not gross at all, and people are always suprised to hear that the minky is stain resistant. They look new again wash after wash :)

  153. What would I say to someone who was hesitant to try? First of all I would just smile and chuckle when their first reaction was "Ew!" :) Can't say I would'nt of said the same thing before I decided to dive in myself. Then I would tell them to just try one or two at first, maybe pick one because its their favorite color or they love the print. Along with the important bit that washing is as simple as throwing in the machine. More than likely after they got them home and realized how rediculously soft they are they'll love them. That and the glorious fact that your period doesn't have to be such a drag without any uncomfortable smelly plastics.

  155. 1.) To be honest I'm the hesitant one! But if I where to tell some one about switching to cloth pads, I would tell them exactly what I'm trying to tell myself....why not it just makes sense, you think it's kinda gross but in reality don't you think what your using now is worse. I mean think about it we are wearing plastic uncomfortable pads then throwing them out where they sit for years in the landfills, now that is gross.( I'm on a tight budget right now and that's why I haven't switched yet but hopefully soon)

2.) So many nice sets it's hard to choose, so this is ONE of my favorites: http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_138/Brown-Damask-Heavy-Pad-Set.htm

  157. I'd tell them that cloth feels a lot better next to your skin than plastic, and you don't have to worry about sensitivities to chemicals and scents typically added to disposable pads. And as a cloth diapering momma, I can reassure them that cleaning cloth products is pretty easy and it's a lot less gross than dealing with the waste created from disposable items.

  160. I would say that I can understand the hesitation, but that once I tried them I would never go back. They are soft and comfy and don't smell! The beautiful colors and designs just make is that much more awesome :) Knowing that I am doing something good for the environment AND doing something nice for myself all at the same time. I love using cloth pads every day, but especially at that time of the month, they make me feel like I am taking extra good care of myself, and I wouldn't trade that for the world. (Plus, I definitely do NOT miss the smelly trash that disposables created!) They are easy to clean, and the minky doesn't stain - just throw it in the wash!

  164. I would start by telling them how many chemicals are really in the pads. Also that those chemicals are the main reason for exteneded periods and the horrible cramping. the chemicals are used to "pull" the blood out of you. And that cause you to dry up and have the cramps. If you get rid of the chemicals, you can see possibly shorter periods, if not shorter lighter and a lot less cramping, if any at all

  165. I have not tried them yet although I have placed my order and am really looking forward to (which sounds so weird to say).

I have to use them for health reasons, but I would say to others is that the main reasons for using them are:
    1. Health - they are better for your body, you are not exposing your most delicate and vulnerable area to chemicals and harsh plastics each month.
    2. Cost - they might be expensive in the short run but in the long run you will save thousands of dollars. For those who are 'heavy' bleeders the initial investment isn't even that much. For me, the amount I have been spending on pads each month more than pays for a good sample set.
    3. The change from the bin to the laundry basket isn't really that massive - instead of having a stinky bin each month you will have a closed wet bag and / or soaking bucket. And then you just wash and dry like normal. That's no big deal. And let's face it we all 'leak' or have 'overspill' at some point, so at least some 'scrubbing' of blood is going on, so now it's just adding a bit more and from what I've read probably saving your undies at the same time.
    4. Environment - you are not throwing away countless materials that aren't biodegradable each month to pile up in trash heaps.

My current favourite pad set is the blue light- regular flow set at http://www.treehuggerclothpads.com/i_181/Turquoise-Cows-Light-Flow-Pad-Set.htm
This is for two reasons the first is that they look so cute and I love the cow pattern! The second is that I want to colour-code my pads the same as the disposable ones so that the transition is easier for me to make - mentally - so I can just look at quickly see which is which. Green for liners, Blue for light - regular, Pink - super and Purple - night-time.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Well right now that's a hard question for me to answer since I haven't tried them yet. I've heard a lot of positive things and I already cloth diaper so why not? But I am a crazy coupon lady and spend very little on disposable pads so the budget doesn't allow for me to spend full price on much. But this would help!!

  169. To a friend who is hesitant, I would tell them about the financial, environmental, and bodily benefits of cloth pads. Plus, as usually the hesitation has to do with the washing of them, I would tell them about how I keep a sealable container under our bathroom sink that I put my used pads in with water & baking soda, and every day or 2nd day I put those through the cold water wash of my washing machine & dryer. Yes, it is more "care" and "hands-on" then disposable pads, but the benefits by far out-weigh the "grossness" factor. (Before using cloth pads, I used to have chronic yeast infections, and I haven't had 1 since I started using them 11 years ago!) :-D
